Lyon skipper welcomes Villarreal test

13th February 2018, 15:47 by Aidan Perkins

Captain Nabil Fekir says confidence is high in the Lyon camp that they can see off Villarreal in the Europa League.

Lyon entertain the Spanish side in the first leg of their last-32 tie this week and Fekir admits it will be a tough test for OL, but one he believes they can come through.

Villarreal are enjoying an impressive season in La Liga and are fifth in the table, just five points behind European giants Real Madrid in fourth, and Fekir admits it's the ideal examination of their credentials as they look to go far in the competition.

He said: "It's a very good team, it will not be easy but we too have our qualities. We are confident, we do not see ourselves as the underdogs."

Fekir thinks Villarreal's attacking approach could help them in the tie as both sides are not in the business of shutting up shop.

He added: "It's a team that plays well with the ball, that does not close the game, it's what we like and I hope that we will succeed in playing our game.

"The team with the most control, which will be the most decisive, will win."
