Paratore and Norris hold early advantage
Renato Paratore and Shaun Norris set the pace at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship with opening rounds of 64.
Paratore finished his round strongly, picking up shots on the final holes, and looked good with the putter as he looks to claim a second European Tour title.
"Today the short game was really good and also the iron play," Paratore said. "The last four holes I holed some good putts on 18 and 17 so I'm pretty happy with the short game today."
Norris, who has climbed up the rankings since missing the cut at the Fujisankei Classic in September, continued his fine form to join Paratore two clear of the chasing pack on eight-under.
Brooks Koepka made a positive return to competition action after three months out with a knee injury and sits two shots further back in a tie for third alongside Australian Jason Scrivener.
Rafa Cabrera Bello, Sergio Garcia, Kurt Kitayama, Li Haotong, Zander Lomard and Zach Murray are tied for fifth on five-under.
