Fleetwood in dreamland after Ryder Cup heroics
Tommy Fleetwood admits 2018 was a dream year, with playing alongside Francesco Molinari in a winning Ryder Cup team the highlight.
Fleetwood ended the season ranked 12th in the world, with one victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and 10 other top-10 finishes under his belt.
It was superb campaign worldwide but nothing could have prepared the softly-spoken star for events at Le Golf National as Europe regained the Ryder Cup with a 17.5 - 11.5 thrashing of the United States.
Fleetwood played a massive part, teaming up with Open champion Molinari to win four points while the Italian claimed five out of five, and the press nicknamed the duo 'Moliwood'.
The Southport resident admitted it has been a stellar year but playing with his close friend in a winning cause in Paris was the icing on the cake.
"I would have been happy enough with my season anyway," he told the daily Telegraph. "But that pairing with Fran made it a 2018 I will never forget."
Much is expected of Fleetwood next year, with a maiden major high on his wish-list but the amiable Englishman is happy to reflect on this year’s achievements.
"To be on the winning team on your debut is amazing enough anyway but to do so alongside one of your best mates is the stuff of dreams," he added.
