Kapur talks up rising Indian stars

13th February 2018, 17:39 by Aidan Perkins

Indian star Shiv Kapur says next month's Indian Open represents the perfect stage for local players to enhance their reputations.

A host of top Indian players will converge on the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon for the tournament, which starts on March 8, including Kapur, Team Asia captain Arjun Atwal and former winner Anirban Lahiri.

Alongside them will be the likes of Shubhankar Sharma and defending champion SSP Chawrasia, while European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn and English star Andrew Johnston are also in the field.

Kapur believes the tournament, which is co-sanctioned by the Asia and European Tour, provides a great showcase for local talent.

He said: "There is lot of healthy competition from the younger guys and the older ones are still knocking on the door.

"There is a golden generation of Indian golf that is pushing each other on."
