Rahm looking forward to Race to Dubai defence
Jon Rahm says it will be an "honour" to begin the defence of his Race to Dubai title at the WGC-Mexico Championship this week.
The world number three became only the second Spaniard after Seve Ballesteros to end the year as Europe's top golfer and did so in style, winning his final two events of the 2019 season - the Open de Espana and the DP World Tour Championship.
Rahm will now begin the defence of his title at this week's WGC-Mexico Championship and admits it is a huge honour to not only be the man to beat on the European Tour this season, but also follow in the footsteps of compatriot Ballesteros.
"It's an honour," Rahm told reporters. "I was able to make Spanish history that week in Dubai and enjoy my name next to Seve's.
"To be the only two players to win the Race to Dubai, for me it's a huge honour. Anybody that knows and follows me (knows) Seve is a huge influence of mine and to be able to do that is incredible."
Rahm can replicate Ballesteros in more ways than one this week as he can also follow the four-time major winner in being just the second Spaniard to reach world number one – something he is keen to achieve.
He added: "No player since Seve has been able to achieve it and it is a dream that we have since childhood."
