Woods positive despite 17th woes

15th March 2019, 19:42 by Aidan Perkins

Tiger Woods says he's still in with a chance at The Players Championship, despite his second-round quadruple-bogey seven on the 17th.

Woods had impressed at Sawgrass on day two as he fired home birdies on the 12th, 13th and 16th, soon after starting from the 10th tee.

Things took a turn for the worse at the famous 17th, though, as the American managed to find the water twice on his way to a damaging seven.

The 43-year-old is staying upbeat, even if he admits he was frustrated with his first shot in particular.

"The second wedge didn’t really surprise me, it was too flat," he said. "The first one I hit surprised me.

"I was pretty ticked. I was determined to get it all back.

"Other than 17 I really haven’t done a whole lot wrong. Anyone who makes the cut has a chance."

Woods ended his second round with a 71 to sit on -3, six shots behind surprise early clubhouse leader Jim Furyk after his flawless 64.
