After Careful Assessment, The Rest Can Follow Kirby Mount Home

9th January 2019, 10:53 by Gerard Lees

Five-Year-Old Ready To Gain Third Win

West Sussex trainer William Knight has trained UNIT OF ASSESSMENT for the whole of the gelding's career and must know absolutely everything about him. The horse has two wins to his 15 race career and those victories, significantly, with today's pilot and all-weather maestro Adam Kirby in the plate.

Those wins were off marks of 65 and 68 and he goes off 69 today, which looks well within his compass. He ran an interesting race over course and distance here last month, when, under identical conditions, he came in third to Ilhabela Fact who raced again here last weekend and looked a winner before being unable to see out the extra five furlongs of that race.

The pilot that day, Martin Harley, kept Unit of Assessment on the outside of the field for the whole race, often being five or so wide, and the son of Dragon Pulse then ran on to take third place without being knocked about.

He is second on regular and third on speed ratings and gets a full 10 positives. MAGIC MIRROR and BEAUTY SALON get the next best ratings but the 3/1 at Hills and Bet365 about the Unit is being taken and he may only get shorter.
