Become A Legend At Haydock
Conditions Look To Suit Alexanders' Seven Year Old
The going at Haydock today will be bottomless and only suit a few horses (remember Bristol De Mai at the last meeting?) and a quick reference to BTOPlus+ can filter out a possibilty or two. The #help4Matt Handicap Chase is run this afternoon over an extended two and a half miles and a look at the "Sire Going" criterion shows three being suited; cross reference to "Past Performance" enhances the chances of one. The Alexander family send their young chaser CLAN LEGEND to Lancashire and he slots into those criteria. His sire Midnight Legend gets ticks in the going box and the horse shows a five from 12 win return on heavy ground. He has been campaigned mainly at the two mile distance, but after a seasonal debut win at Hexham in November (heavy ground) he turned out here in December and ran creditably over a distance a little shorter than today's to finish third to One For Harry and Tawseef who has come out and won since. He drops four pounds for that effort and gets nine BTO positives, including a 28% better than expected figure for his sire's progeny at the distance. This is a tough handicap and FEDERICI and CRIEVEHILL are just two who have some points to recommend them. but the 10/1 widely on offer for Clan Legend looks each way attractive.
