Captain Looks A Shaw Thing

13th January 2018, 15:01 by Gerard Lees

Recent Winner Set To Go In Again In Sprint

After some disappointing runs in September, when, in five runs he beat just nine horses home, CAPTAIN LARS regained form and has got his head in front at the post in two of three events. The latest was over six furlongs of today's course just a week and a half ago when he beat Tricky Dicky a length and a half with Hammer Gun back in fourth; the former was runner up in his previous race and the latter a winner over seven furlongs of this course in his. Captain Lars shouldn't be troubled by today's drop in trip as he won over the faster five furlongs at Chelmsford just last April. The topweight is has a six pounds penalty to carry but is actually a pound lower as trainer Derek Shaw puts up Nicola Currie, seen to such advantage on Swiss Vinnare just yesterday. The gelding is rated top of BTO's regular and speed figures and best in under six of 12 headings. He also gets 14 BTO positives! Other recent runners PIAZON and CROSSE FIRE look his main rivals but Hill's and Coral's 10/3 looks interesting.
