Course And Distance Winner Set To Strike Again

1st January 2019, 09:35 by Gerard Lees

Hurdler Becoming A Course Specialist at Norfolk Venue

With a current course return at Fakenham of six from 27, Warwickshire trainer Ollie Murphy can clearly target horses for the quirky course and he races his course and distance winner TODD there today in the Sky Sports Racing Now Live Handicap Hurdle. The nine-year-old son of French sire Gentlewave has run at the venue five times since coming over from Ireland and has achieved figures of 1,3,2,3 and 1. The last win was quite impressive as he looked held three furlongs out, was hampered going for a gap at the last bend and then showed a great attitude to get home by half a length from Young Phoenix and subsequent runner-up Cassivellaunus. He had champion Richard Johnson on board there, who gave him a brilliant ride off a mark of 105 and he is raised a very fair three pounds today. Callum McKinnes now takes seven off so he is effectively four pounds to the good, and although it would be unfair to compare Johnson and a claimer, McKinnes has ridden five winners and had 16 places from 37 attempts, no mean feat. The horse is top on BTOPlus+ regular and speed figures and gets six positives in total. STRICTLYADANCER and YOUKNOWELL are next best in the betting but have a few negatives and ROSESPOSES and MINELLA GATHERING might be bigger challengers on BTO ratings and stats. At the 9/4 offered by William Hill and Paddy Power, Todd looks a worthy favourite.
