Did You Hear The One About The German, The Scouser And The Winner?
Progressive Cox Three-Year-Old Ready To Strike
The Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes that KLOPP OF THE KOP contested at York last month looks like it threw up an outstanding winner in Mums Tipple, and to run third to that animal was certainly no disgrace. The Clive Cox trained son of Excelebration can open his account at the third attempt in the opening race at Ascot, the Italian Tourist Board British EBF Novice Auction Stakes.
Klopp of the Kop had been off the course since April when he had run with great with promise on his debut at Newbury, staying on when fourth over an obviously inadequate five furlongs. The winner, Highland Chief came out again at Royal Ascot and ran third in the Chesham. After a summer break came the York race, an event turned into a procession by the exciting Mums Tipple.
Klopp completely belied his odds of 20-1 to finish third, beating 18 other juveniles over the six furlongs and showing plenty of ability and potential. He still looked green and ran on really well, suggesting a longer trip will eventually suit. Cox's charge was beaten just a neck by the 98-rated Rayong and had the likes of previous winners Raahy and St Ives in behind. Adam Kirby is on board and he is an encouraging 11% at Ascot.
JIM 'N' TOMIC is best on BTO ratings and has had wind surgery since his last run and MRS MERTON is being backed, but her trainer, Bill Wright hasn't had a winner at the course in 36 goes.
At 15/8, Klopp of the Kop can score for connections.
