Dow Three-Year-Old Hard to Beat
Second Win Looks On The Cards With Conditions To Suit
Epsom trainer Simon Dow is going through a welcome purple patch at the moment, with three winners and a second from his last seven runners, and he sends RECUERDAME along the M25 to Kempton this afternoon with a great chance of bringing home gold.
The gelding has raced eight times in total and won a 7f Chelmsford nursery last August, beating Camachess a couple of lengths after making all. That filly ran second next time and has run up a sequence this summer and the third, First Thought has won since.
Two unsuccessful Spring runs followed a gelding operation but then after a short break he returned to form with a runner-up spot behind subsequent Newbury winner Fortune And Glory over today’s course and distance. The son of The Factor goes off the same mark of 65 here and looks a key player with conditions replicated. Harry Bentley is on board again and he had two winners from four rides yesterday; add that he and Dow are three from eight at Kempton.
DARGEL is favourite and an obvious danger and he justified his position at the head of the market on his handicap debut at Chepstow last time out. That was his first race after wind surgery and he probably has improvement in him. A 3lb rise for that success looks fair but Recuerdame could be ahead of the handicapper here.
