Koul Head At Market Rasen Can Produce A Winner

13th January 2018, 15:01 by Gerard Lees

Skelton Novice Ticks A Lot Of The Important Boxes

French import ASHKOUL runs in his third event in the UK today with excellent prospects of bringing home gold. He had a decent little career at the minor tracks in France, running eight times, usually placed, with two wins, both on soft going. The latter is significant as his two runs in this country have been on turf with limited give; the ground at Market Rasen is good to soft with rain forecast. He made his debut over hurdles at Kempton in November where he was second of three to Mr Whipped; his next venture was much better with him again being runner up but this time beaten just over a length to Mahlervous at Southwell in a field of 14. We are waiting for runners from the race to re-emerge to confirm the form but there were a couple of decent bumper horses such as Copper West in it so it might, in context, have been a reasonable event. BTOPlus+ has Ashkoul top of regular and speed ratings,131 points clear of BALLINSLEA BRIDGE. Although the Skelton horse gets a couple of negatives they are from small samples of seven and six. He then gets seven BTO positives, including the trainer's 50% better than expected over course and distance. Bridget Andrews takes off three pounds and the 6/4 on offer looks reasonable.
