Looks Like Being Well Taut In Essex

29th November 2018, 09:53 by Gerard Lees

Two-Year-Old To Capitalise On Experience

It could boil down to a two-horse race in the Irish Lotto At totesport.com British EBF Novice Stake at Chelmsford this evening with John Gosden's SO HIGH taking on Roger Varian's TAUTEKE over a mile. They have both raced once, the former finishing fifth, beaten just over four lengths to Great Bear at Wolverhampton earlier this month and the latter coming in a superior looking third to Lady Adelaide at Kempton. That was a better effort than it looks on paper as she found herself on the outside of the field at the bend and then ran on really well to close on the first two at the death. The winner had been second in a decent Newbury event in her previous run, her debut, and the fourth, Scentasia had been beaten under three lengths in hers. While staying is likely to prove her game in time, she will be more streetwise for the experience and can take this. She is rated just behind So High on BTOPlus+ figures but he has to give her 5lbs and gets a few negatives off BTO, such as the progeny of his sire Nathaniel performing 50% worse than expected over a mile. Tauteke's 2/1 looks fair.
