Nothing Lacklustre About Lanigan Three Year Old
Improvement A Definite For Ex-French Filly.
Although only in a maiden, one of the most promising runs seen lately was that made by the filly LACUSTRE here at Chelmsford when runner-up to odds on favourite Anasheed over this evening’s distance of a mile and a quarter last month.
The race was her second in total, the first being when she occupied a midfield position in an extended mile and a quarter event at Longchamp in the spring. Trained there at that time by Andre Fabre, she was transferred to David Lanigan’s Newmarket yard in August and then made her UK debut the following month. Held up in a field of nine and presumably unfancied at 14/1, she was around eight lengths down when going well when the runners approached the last bend two furlongs out. Switched to the complete outside of the field by pilot Stevie Donohoe, she was running on happily before two slaps with the whip saw her accelerate and close rapidly on the winner in the last furlong to be beaten just over a length at the post.
Everything, including the jockey, is the same this evening and a more than decent run can be expected. BTOPlus+ has her second on regular, and top on speed ratings, and gives her eight positives, including five for the progeny of her sire Dansili and a 24% win rate for her trainer over the distance. Her two main rivals on BTO figures are OSCAR’S RIDGE, who is an entire and making his debut but whose sire, Galileo has an unusually low strike-rate of 8% at the course and MAINSAIL ATLANTIC, who has had six goes at winning and doesn’t seem to be improving. Lacustre is best 13/8 with Bet365.
