Roc On Down To Cheltenham

Cheekpieces To Do The Trick For Henderson Stayer

An extended three miles two on heavy ground at Cheltenham, with its uphill finish adding to the demands, requires a certain type of horse and we may have that in the shape of VYTA DU ROC in the Watch Live Racing On BetBright.com Handicap Chase this afternoon. Relatively lightly raced for a nine year old, with just 21 races under his belt, the gelding has slightly disappointed this Autumn but clearly relishes the conditions prevailing today at the Gloucestershire track. A top hurdler, rated at 150, he took Class One events here at Cheltenham and at Sandown as a novice in 2014. He was then sent chasing and won an extended two miler at Bangor on heavy ground before tackling longer distances. On just his fifth chase he competed in the Scottish Grand National and did really well to finish fifth to Vivente, staying on and being beaten by just over a dozen lengths. He went down by a head in this year's Bet 365 at Sandown, again a real stayer's performance. Two under par efforts this Autumn don't look as good but he is still only nine and is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time. BTOPlus+ puts him top of its regular and speed ratings, has him best in under five headings, allocates six ticks for Sire Progeny Going and gives him four nice positives. If the cheekpieces do the trick he might look a good thing and Black Type's 2/1 generous. RUSSE BLANC and SOUTHFIELD THEATRE can chase him home.
