Williams Goes to the Well at Cheltenham
Nigel Twiston-Davies won this in 2014 and 2015 and his winner from the latter year Splash Of Ginge returns for another crack at this event.
He disappointed last time though and the stable’s other runner Ballyhill makes more appeal despite a record of 0/4 over fences he looks quite nicely treated if he can bounce back from a nasty fall at Aintree last time.
The first, third and sixth from this contest last year all come back for another crack although the winner Shantou Flyer is now with another yard and 3lb higher in the handicap plus he’s yet to fire this season. The third from last year Top Gamble who also occupied the same position in the previous year he’s had a couple of tough tasks so far this season although he is 5lb higher than he was last year and another place may well be the best he can manage.
There must be a doubt about Theinval on the ground as he rarely runs on this sort of surface and the smart but seemingly fragile Sametegal remains on a competitive mark and would be preferred after putting two good runs together.
BURTONS WELL looks to be the pick of the weights though having shaped well on his seasonal return at Stratford in October when second to a race-fit rival and he’s run well around here before and has form on testing ground.
