Yarmouth Has Poetry In Motion At Last

7th August 2019, 11:08 by Gerard Lees

Mare Set To Strike Again At Favourite Venue

SONNET ROSE returns to a course and distance she's produced some of her best form this evening.

It might be the relatively short journey from trainer Conrad Allen's Newmarket yard to the seaside, but the stats certainly suggest she's worth noting when she goes to Yarmouth. The daughter of Poet's Voice has competed five times over seven furlongs here and the figures read 33221, the latest win coming a month ago when she gamely got up on the line to beat Essential a head. Her proficiency at Yarmouth shouldn't really be too much of a surprise as the progeny of her sire are an impressive 15 from 67 here, 43% better than expected.

That win over Essential was from a mark of 59 and she is up 4lb tonight, again with the claim from the same jockey. That doesn’t look prohibitive as regards winning. Add that Allen and Woods are a significant four from 17 when combining here, and that she has finished second since to a subsequent winner, and her credentials look good.

DUBAI ELEGANCE is turned out quickly after a win at Doncaster on Saturday and warrants respect if she can reproduce that form. CAEN NA COILLE is lightly raced, has been placed in her last two visits to the racecourse and looks to be running into form. She and eventual winner Red Romance cleared away from the rest of the field in her latest race but she is up 2lb.

At 5/1 in an eight-runner race, Sonnet Rose appeals as a likely each-way bet to nothing provided the eight runners stand their ground.
