Addeybb has connections buzzing
Connections were delighted with Addeybb's performance after he landed the Group One Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
The six-year-old gave jockey Tom Marquand his first Group One winner in the Australian showpiece, with Verry Elleegant second ahead of Avilius.
The son of Pivotal led them for most of the way and made his move with around two furlongs to go in the mile-and-a-quarter contest.
Verry Elleegant responded and briefly nudged ahead before William Haggas's charge responded to land the spoils.
Marquand, a seven-time winner in the UK, won by half-a-length and afterwards Marquand could not hide his joy.
"A Group One is all I have dreamt of since childhood, an international Group One even more so, and an international Group One on an English horse is even better," he told Racing.com.
"Addeybb was extremely tough. It's on ground that he doesn't really want nor appreciate."
Haggas was stoked that his plans for the gelding worked perfectly, saying: "You always hope, but the reality is it rarely happens as you'd like it to.
"It was a good day. It's been a long-term plan, but it is rare things happen that favourably - this one did."
