Back-up plan for La Bague Au Roi

29th January 2019, 10:58 by Gareth Freeman

La Bague Au Roi is set to compete in the Flogas Novice Chase at Leopardstown on Sunday but could head to Sandown instead.

Trainer Warren Greatrex says the Dublin Racing Festival is the intended target for his Grade One-winning mare but he also has the option of the Scilly Isles Novices' Chase at Sandown on Saturday if weather issues prevent La Bague Au Roi making the trip to Ireland.

"We are all set to go over to Ireland this weekend," he said, as reported by Independent.ie. "She has the entry at Sandownjust in case there are any weather issues and we can't get over on the ferry, but we will aim to get her over Thursday rather than Friday if we need to."

La Bague Au Roi holds entries in the RSA Insurance Novices' Chase and the JLT Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, but Greatrex has previously said his charge is more likely to head to Aintree after Ireland as "she is better on a flat track".
