Blackmore dreaming of Cheltenham win

5th December 2018, 15:02 by James Mason

Rachael Blackmore says she would "love" to pick up a winner at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival.

Tipperary jockey Blackmore has enjoyed a stellar season after racking up an impressive 61 wins and she currently leads the Irish jump jockey championship, one ahead of Paul Townend.

Although very pleased with how things are going, the female star is setting her standards even higher and is wants to realise one of her dreams by winning at Prestbury Park in March next year.

"I'd obviously love to ride a winner in Cheltenham, that's a dream of every jockey," she said. "So I will just try to keep going with similar momentum that I have at the moment.

"It's been a phenomenal year. And I never thought I would be in the position I am in now at the start of December."

In terms of the jockey championship, Blackmore says she is hoping to keep racking up the wins to finish on top.

She added: "Hopefully, I can keep going. If they called off jump racing for the rest of the season, I'd be happy enough. Like everyone in racing, you take things week by week or day by day, and things change very quickly."
