Fences a possibility for Benie

22nd May 2019, 13:12 by Jack Ogalbe

Willie Mullins says he may be tempted to give Benie Des Dieux another shot over fences following her French Champion Hurdle win.

The eight-year-old strode home by six-and-a-half lengths at Auteuil to back up her success in the Mares Champions Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival.

Benie Des Dieux is unbeaten over fences, last featuring over them in a Listed win at Naas in February 2018.

Mullins is keen to keep his cards close to his chest regarding his star mare, but admits he could be tempted for her to step back up to the bigger obstacles.

"I was thrilled with Benie. When you look at the calibre of horses she beat, especially De Bon Coeur who I have an awful lot of respect for, you would have to say it was a very, very good performance and possibly one of her best ever," Mullins said.

"I would definitely be tempted to send Benie over fences again at some stage, but we will have to wait and see how she is next season. I don't like to look too far ahead with her."
