Frodon set for Ryanair Chase
Trainer Paul Nicholls has revealed Frodon is likely to run in the Ryanair Chase at next week's Cheltenham Festival.
The Paul Vogt-owned seven-year-old has an imperious record at Cheltenham, winning at the Prestbury Park venue on four previous occasions, most recently in the Cotswold Chase in January.
The Cotswold Chase is a renowned Cheltenham Gold Cup trial and Frodon does hold an entry in next Friday's showpiece race at the Festival, but Nicholls has indicated he is more likely to run in the Ryanair Chase 24 hours earlier.
"He's almost certain to run in the Ryanair, it looks like some of the big names have dropped out, it will be interesting to see what does run," Nicholls told Sky Sports. "We'll confirm him tomorrow for the Gold Cup, but he's almost certain to run in the Ryanair."
Nicholls feels running Frodon in the Ryanair Chase will give his horse the best chance of claiming another Cheltenham victory.
"You'd have to say looking at the two races, if you're looking to try to win, the right thing to do is to run him in the Ryanair," Nicholls added.
"You've got to run horses in the right races and it does look like the Ryanair is probably the right race for him. He can always go further later."
