Ivory praying for Newbury downpour

14th August 2019, 13:35 by Alex Jack

With Librisa Breeze and Flaming Spear set to run in the Unibet Hungerford Stakes, Dean Ivory says he is praying for rain at Newbury.

Librisa Breeze is yet to make an appearance this season, while stablemate Flaming Spear had to settle for fifth in his last outing in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

With Saturday's race at Newbury edging closer, Ivory has admitted he is praying for the ground to soften to give his runners a fighting chance.

"We're looking for some rain to get a bit of soft ground," said Ivory. "I've been waiting and waiting and I'm hoping it will come. We want more than showers.

"I'll have a look on Thursday morning and see what the ground is like."
