Judicial heads to Newbury with renewed confidence

31st August 2019, 18:17 by Neil Foster

Connections hope Judicial can end a disappointing campaign well at Newbury after winning the William Hill Beverley Bullet on Saturday.

As expected, Ornate led then out in the five-furlong sprint but as the co-favourite faded, Joe fanning's mount stayed strong to score by three quarters of a length at the Yorkshire track.

Queen's Gift was second ahead of Fairy Falcon while Ornate could only finish sixth, with Judicial now having won three from three at Beverley.

The seven-year-old has not had the best of seasons, beating just one horse for his only win of the campaign at Newmarket in July while he was last of 12 in Ascot's King's Stand Stakes.

Trainer Julie Camacho's husband and assistant Steve Brown admitted it has been a disappointing few months but wants to head into the winter in good spirits.

"He's had a regressive year unfortunately on the whole, and there's been no obvious reason why," he said. "I think eventually you lose a bit of confidence, I think that's natural.

"He's been a little bit tame in his finish. We've inherited a horse that was combustible and I think he's got comfortable.

"We're back on track, we'll just go to Newbury for the Group Three I would imagine in a couple of weeks' time. If we go there and we can finish the season on a high, we'll be pleased and back next year."
