Khaadem heading to Sprint Cup

9th August 2019, 18:53 by Bobbie Jackson

Charlie Hills thinks the Sprint Cup at Haydock is the perfect trip for Stewards' Cup winner Khaadem next time out.

The three-year-old boasts two victories from four runs in 2019, placing on three occasions, and Hills feels he is ready to stake his claim at Haydock.

Khaadem was most recently seen at Goodwood when he dropped down in handicap company to win the Stewards' Cup from Open Wide by two-and-three-quarter-lengths.

He does hold an entry to the Unibet Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on August 17 but Hills has suggested they could skip that in favour of the Group 1 at Haydock on September 7.

Hills said: "I think the Sprint Cup is the obvious place to go and the timing is right. We are pleased with the way he has come out of the race and he is fresh and well.

"I'm just looking forward to Haydock. The went fast and that seemed to suit him well. When he picked up he put the race to bed very quickly.

"He is still relatively inexperienced as that was only the seventh run of his career and he is putting his races together well.

"I'm sure he will make a lovely four-year-old. Things didn't go quite right for us at Newbury. That day we were drawn badly and we were just a bit too far back."
