Lavender's Blue set for Newmarket

31st August 2019, 17:42 by Neil Foster

Connections feel Lavender's Blue is now ready for a trip to Newmarket after winning the Betway Atalanta Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.

The three-year-old was sent off at 12/1, with Jubiloso the odds-on favourite to land the one-mile Group Three contest but it was Amanda Perrett's filly that prevailed.

Sir Michael Stoute's favourite led early on but tailed off under Ryan Moore, eventually finishing seventh of the eight runners.

Lavender's Blue made a winning debut at Newmarket in the spring before finishing second in Listed company at Newbury.

However she had not been seen since trailing in last of 14 in the Investec Oaks on May 31.

Three months away from the action seems to have done the trick and Perrett is looking forward to the daughter of Sea The Stars racing at Headquarters.

"She travelled well and also when she won her maiden she travelled nicely. It was probably a mistake in hindsight to go for the Oaks, but we're back in winning ways and there's lots to look forward to," she said.

"She has done nothing wrong today and she deserves her chance at Newmarket in the Sun Chariot, as long as the ground is OK, because she wouldn't want it too soft at the moment."
