Ricci hails Benie Des Dieux

13th March 2018, 17:45 by James Mason

Owner Rich Ricci says Benie Des Dieux could "beat anything" after her triumph in the Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham on Tuesday.

Jockey Ruby Walsh, who had earlier won the Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices' Chase on Footpad, produced another stunning ride as he steered Benie Des Dieux to a thrilling win.

The Willie Mullins-trained charge came through in the home stretch to beat Midnight Tour in second and favourite Apple's Jade in third, who threatened briefly at the end before tailing off.

It was another masterful ride from Walsh, who finished with two wins on day one of the Festival at Prestbury Park, and Ricci expressed his delight at landing the coveted title.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Can't describe it. What a ride. Vroom Vroom Mag was a great chaser before hurdles and Benie Des Dieux also puts a lot of pressure on her hindquarters. What a fantastic ride by Ruby Walsh, dear lord. The name means child of gold. She could beat anything."
