Richards keen to test Better Getalong
Trainer Nicky Richards says he is eager to test Better Getalong in good company after his latest win over hurdles at Ayr.
The seven-year-old ran out a clear winner by four-and-a-half lengths in the Racing UK Novices’ Hurdle on Tuesday to claim his second win in three outings over the jumps.
Richards has hinted that the Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso and the Premier Hurdle at the same course on February 15 and March 3 respectively could be on the cards.
However, it appears Richards is keen to get some more running into his charge before those cards and he believes there is a lot more to come from Better Getalong.
Richards said: "I'm not sure what we'll do yet, we'll just let the dust settle.
"I might take him to Kelso for a novice hurdle before the Morebattle or the Premier Hurdle. We'll just see how he is. He seems OK. It didn't take much out of him on Tuesday.
"He's a fine, big horse and a bit of a playboy - he does nothing in his races. I'd be very surprised if he's not better on better ground, but nearly all his races have been on soft.
"He's a good horse and in the early days when you are not against the best you can get away with it. He's a proper chaser but I want to get some racing into him this year. He's had three runs but he's turned seven already."
