Welsh National rescheduled for January
The Coral Welsh Grand National has been rescheduled for January 6 after being postponed due to a waterlogged track.
The event was officially abandoned in the early hours of Wednesday morning with Chepstow Racecourse’s Twitter account confirming the news.
“Due to 60mm of rain and snow in the last 48 hours it is with regret that The Coral Welsh Grand National has been abandoned. Discussions are underway with the BHA to reschedule the race for Sat 6th January. Further details to follow,” Chepstow Racecourse Tweeted.
The three-mile-five-furlong event was set to be the headline of the seven-race card but adverse weather conditions have prevented any racing from going ahead.
Organisers were keen to try and announce a new date as quickly as possible and Chepstow’s clerk of the course Keith Ottesen has confirmed it will take place early in 2018.
Ottesen said: "With huge help from our sponsors Coral and the BHA, we've rearranged the fixture for Saturday, January 6, and we'll have some races on ITV as well.
"All the information about redeeming tickets, tickets being valid for January 6 and refunds is on the Chepstow website.
"Entries for the Coral Welsh Grand National itself will go back to the original stage in November, so even if you didn't declare for today's race, you will be able to do so."
