McLeish exit - Ross focused on Black Cats

Sunderland boss Jack Ross claims he is focusing on his current job after being linked with the Scotland managerial position.

The 42-year-old is currently trying to guide the Black Cats back to the Championship from League One at the first attempt, having replaced Chris Coleman at the Stadium of Light last summer.

Ross has guided Sunderland to third place in the table, two points behind Barnsley in the second automatic promotion place but they boast a game in hand.

And it's being reported that the Scottish FA have earmarked the former St Mirren boss as a possible successor to Alex McLeish, who has left his position after a less than convincing start to their Euro 2020 qualification campaign.

However, when quizzed about the possibility of becoming his national team coach, Ross said: "I genuinely haven't read anything this week – I'm trying to be clear-headed about what we're trying to do.

"I've said time and time again how much I enjoy this job, and also how much I've still got to do within it.

"For however long I'm here, that's what I'll be focused on, and my commitment to the job I've got to do here hasn't changed. That's the only thing I'm focused on and there's still an awful lot of things I want to achieve at Sunderland Football Club."
