Vela toying with Barca move
LA Galaxy's Jonathan Dos Santos says Los Angeles FC striker Carlos Vela has an offer on the table from Barcelona.
Vela has taken the MLS by storm over the past two seasons, scoring 50 goals in 62 appearances.
His exploits helped them to finish atop the Western Conference, finishing 16 points clear of Seattle, only to then be beaten in the MLS Cup Conference Finals by the Sounders.
After struggling for form during the latter stages of his time with Real Sociedad, Vela has rebuilt his reputation and could be set for a return to Spain.
Dos Santos, who plays alongside Vela for Mexico, claims Barcelona are hoping to snap him up when the January transfer window opens.
He was reportedly on their radar a year ago but signing a midfielder became a bigger priority and they drafted in Kevin Prince-Boateng instead.
Barca have been monitoring Vela in the meantime and Dos Santos has revealed a contract offer is already on the table.
Dos Santos told Colombian radio station W Radio: “It’s true that he has that offer on the table and I honestly don’t know what he is going to do.
“He is very happy in Los Angeles, with his team. It’s a unique opportunity the fact that Barcelona wants him, it’s the best team in the world. As a Mexican I hope that it can happen for him.”
A switch to the Catalan capital may seem like a no-brainer but it would likely lead to restricted gametime for the 30-year-old.
Luis Suarez is the clear first-choice striker at Barca while Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi have a firm grip on the other attacking slots.
