Galtier hails Pepe's quality

11th February 2019, 11:07 by Craig Smithson

Lille's Nicolas Pepe is just behind players like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in Ligue 1's pecking order, according to Christoph Galtier.

The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international has enjoyed an impressive season for Lille with 16 goals to date which sees him sit alongside Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani in the scoring charts, just two behind France international star Mbappe.

Pepe has also matched PSG winger Angel Di Maria's eight assists which has resulted in speculation linking him with a possible move to pastures new in the summer.

Galtier is hoping to keep Pepe as Les Dogues remain on course to qualify for the Champions League with Sunday's 2-0 win against Guingamp leaving them six points clear of Lyon in second place in Ligue 1.

And, when asked to rate the £80 million-valued star in comparison to the French top-flight's other big names, he said: "In terms of Ligue 1, he's just behind Neymar and Mbappe."
