Matchroom promise Joshua fight

18th April 2019, 01:12 by Michael Holland

Matchroom have said Anthony Joshua will make his American debut despite Jarrell Miller being denied a licence to fight.

Joshua was due to fight Miller on June 1, but the undefeated American has now been denied a license to fight following an 'adverse finding' in a drug test sample.

The Miller camp have requested a B sample be tested, and if that comes back negative, then another application for a licence can be made.

Either way, Joshua's promoters Matchroom have insisted they have a back-up plan, and the 29-year-old will fight someone at Madison Square Garden.

Matchroom chief executive Frank Smith told BBC Sport: "We are working on a list behind the scenes and we will work tirelessly until we find a suitable solution.

"We have sold 15,000 tickets already here at Madison Square Garden, 7,000-8,000 of them to British fans. We have sold tickets to people from 50 different countries and they have booked flights, hotels and everything and you have to factor that in.

"Our plan right now is that we carry on with Madison Square Garden on 1 June and we will announce more details soon."
