Brighton & Hove Albion v Liverpool

11th January 2019, 14:32 by Warren Ashurst

Chris Hughton feels Liverpool are the Premier League title favourites, as he prepares his Brighton team to face the leaders.

Liverpool go into the clash at the Amex Stadium having had their lead cut to four points and have lost their last two fixtures - against Man City and Wolves (FA Cup) - ahead of Saturday's encounter.

Brighton meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last four games in all competitions and the Seagulls have lost just one of their last seven Premier League home games - a run which has moved them 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Hughton has revealed that Bernardo will miss the game due to a hamstring injury, with Gaetan Bong - who played in the FA cup win at Bournemouth - expected to replace the Brazilian at left back.

The manager is still missing injured pair Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Jose Izquierdo, while David Button will continue to stand in for Mat Ryan, who is at the Asian Cup with Australia.

Liverpool also have defensive injury issues, with Dejan Lovren out with a hamstring injury and Joe Gomez still unavailable. Joel Matip returned to training on Thursday and could feature, while Fabinho is another option at centre back. A late fitness test will be handed to midfielder Jordan Henderson, who is also back in training after a calf problem.

The Merseysiders have won the last five meetings between the sides - scoring 18 goals during that run. This fixture finished in a 5-1 win for Klopp's men last season, while the game at Anfield in August ended 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Mo Salah.
