Chelsea v Newcastle United

11th January 2019, 14:37 by James Mason

Chelsea will be looking to pile the misery on Newcastle United when the two go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues are sitting fourth in the Premier League heading into this weekend's fixture but approach the contest on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Maurizio Sarri's men are unbeaten in their last three league matches and have suffered just one defeat at home this season, with that 1-0 loss coming against Leicester City on December 22.

Chelsea remain without midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who is suffering from a back injury, but striker Alvaro Morata is pushing for some kind of involvement after returning to training on Thursday.

Newcastle are without a win from their last five matches in all competitions and have slipped to 16th in the standings, just two points clear of 18th-place Southampton who are away to Leicester City earlier on Saturday.

The Magpies have not won at Stamford Bridge since May 2012 - a brace from Papiss Cisse the difference that day - and Rafael Benitez has some injury issues ahead of the contest.

England international Jonjo Shelvey is out with a thigh problem whilst Welsh defender Paul Dummett and goalkeeper Karl Darlow are also unavailable for selection.

However, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark and Florian Lejeune are ready to boost the defensive options.
