Liverpool v Chelsea

12th April 2019, 14:38 by Warren Ashurst

Liverpool will look to end an eight-game run without a victory over Chelsea at Anfield when the teams meet on Merseyside on Sunday.

The Reds' last home victory over the Blues came back in 2012, since then they have had five draws and three defeats on home soil - which includes a 2-1 loss in this season's EFL Cup.

The hosts know, though, that whatever Manchester City do in Sunday's first game, at Crystal Palace, they can stay top of the league if they can claim the three points against their London opponents.

Jurgen Klopp will make a late decision on whether Joe Gomez will be involved, having been named as a substitute in Tuesday's European win over Porto following a lengthy absence with a broken leg.

Dejan Lovren partnered Virgil van Dijk in midweek and Klopp has to decide whether to stick with that pairing, or to bring back Gomez or Joel Matip - who was also an unused sub on Tuesday.

Andy Robertson is expected to return at left back, after missing the Porto game through suspension, but Adam Lallana looks set to miss out again due to injury.

Chelsea, who start the weekend third in the Premier League table, head to Anfield having won their last four games in all competitions and conceding just one goal in that time.

Maurizio Sarri made no fewer than seven changes for the Thursday's Europa League clash at Slavia Prague and several players are expected to return, including Eden Hazard - who came on as a second-half substitute. Left-back Emerson will undergo a late fitness test, while Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to return to the squad after being rested in the Czech capital.

The hosts go into the match having not lost a league game at Anfield for two years, but they have failed to win any of the last five meetings between the sides. The reverse fixture finished in a 1-1 draw in September, when a late goal from Daniel Sturridge equalised Hazard's first-half strike.
