Manchester City v Burton Albion

8th January 2019, 18:46 by Tom Hill

Manchester City will look to lay down a marker when they host Burton Albion in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens are the overwhelming favourites for Wednesday's game, with Burton still competing in the third tier of British football in League One.

Pep Guardiola's men have won their last three matches in all competitions to give themselves a great chance of winning the domestic treble this season.

Only four points separate them and Liverpool in the Premier League title race, while they advanced into the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating Rotherham United 7-0.

Nigel Clough's Burton are unbeaten in their last four matches and they come into the game on the back of a 4-0 win over Rochdale.

Clough does have some selection headaches ahead of kick-off, with duo Stephen Quinn and John Brayford facing late fitness tests.

Scott Fraser and Jamie Allen are available for the League One club, while Guardiola has no fresh injury concerns for the first competitive meeting between the two sides.
