Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers

11th January 2019, 16:42 by James Mason

Manchester City will be confident of maintaining their impressive run of form when Wolves travel to the Etihad Stadium on Monday night.

After appearing to be in some sort of crisis, the Citizens have racked up four consecutive wins in all competitions - beating Southampton 3-1, Liverpool 2-1, Rotherham 7-0 and Burton Albion 9-0.

City have won 12 of their last 13 home matches - scoring 52 goals at an average of four per game - although they could be without Argentina international Sergio Aguero for the encounter.

The striker fell sick after the win over Liverpool earlier this month and although feeling a little bit better, he only returned to training on Friday and will be assessed closer to the time.

Belgian defender Vincent Kompany is recovering after picking up a knock late on against the Reds and could be involved, whilst everyone else in the squad is available for selection.

Wolves have been hard to figure out this season on their return to the Premier League but they arrive at the Etihad on the back of a 2-1 FA Cup third-round victory over Liverpool.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men managed to hold City in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, although that 1-1 draw was shrouded in controversy after Willy Boly handled the ball into the back of the net.

The Portuguese tactician has a fully-fit squad to choose from and he is expected to recall Republic of Ireland international Matt Doherty, who came on as a substitute last time out.
