Huddersfield Town 1-4 Leicester City

6th April 2019, 16:55 by Mark Race

Leicester City made it four Premier League victories in a row by recording a comfortable 4-1 win at relegated Huddersfield Town.

After a quiet opening to the action in West Yorkshire, the Foxes created the first opening in the 18th minute but, after Ben Hamer had parried Harvey Barnes’ low cross, the Town goalkeeper was alert enough to keep out James Maddison’s close-range effort from the rebound.

It came as no surprise when Brendan Rodgers’ side took the lead six minutes later, with the impressive Youri Tielemans’ powerful 20-yard shot appearing to take a slight deflection as the ball whizzed past Hamer.

The visitors went close to doubling their lead in the 25th minute but Demarai Gray sliced his shot wide after Jamie Vardy had caused the Terriers' defence all sorts of problems.

When Huddersfield got forward, Jon Gorenc Stankovic’s low 25-yard drive failed to trouble Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal, but the visitors thoroughly deserved their half-time lead with Tielemans, Ben Chilwell and Gray going close to scoring further goals before the break.

Jan Siewert’s team were fortunate to only be one goal behind at the interval but started the second half well and Karlan Grant forced Schmeichel to make a smart stop.

However, Leicester doubled their advantage in the 48th minute when Vardy tapped the ball home from close range after Ricardo Pereira had found the former Fleetwood Town striker.

Town were awarded a penalty four minutes later when Caglar Soyuncu brought Grant down in the area and Aaron Mooy scored from the spot.

Leicester almost immediately restored their two-goal advantage but Hamer managed to keep Maddison’s shot out.

Huddersfield enjoyed plenty of possession in the final quarter of the match but Rodgers’ side wrapped up the three points with two goals in the last 11 minutes.

Maddison’s free-kick beat Hamer before Vardy scored from the penalty spot after being brought down by Terence Kongolo as Huddersfield slumped to their 25th defeat of the campaign.
