Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Huddersfield Town

13th April 2019, 14:36 by Mark Race

Lucas Moura grabbed a hat-trick and Victor Wanyama scored a rare goal as Tottenham eased to a 4-0 victory against Huddersfield Town.

Spurs made seven changes from the team that beat Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday with Son Heung-min, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld all starting the game on the bench.

However, they were on top from the opening whistle and it came as no surprise when they took the lead in the 24th minute, although the identity of the goalscorer was a shock - Wanyama picking up a pass from Fernando Llorente, gliding past Ben Hamer and then stroking the ball into an empty net as he scored his first goal since February 2018.

Just three minutes later Spurs doubled their lead when Moura smashed his shot home after being set up by Moussa Sissoko.

Town’s best chance of the first period was wasted by Jon Gorenc Stankovic who contrived to miss the target from six yards out when it seemed easier to score.

Llorente headed wide from a good position before half time but Spurs were able to cruise through the second half as Town struggled to keep the scoreline respectable.

Llorente volleyed against the crossbar and then headed a presentable opening wide before Hamer saved Moura’s drive.

On a rare Town attack, Karlan Grant was denied by a last-ditch Sissoko tackle and, when play swung to the other end, Llorente wasted another good opening, taking one touch too many which allowed Terence Kongolo to get in a good block.

Steve Mounie headed over the bar and Hugo Lloris kept out Juninho Bacuna’s free-kick but Moura made it 3-0 with two minutes remaining after being set up by Christian Eriksen and completed his hat-trick in stoppage time as Huddersfield slumped to a 19th defeat in their last 21 Premier League matches.
