Arsenal set to lose out on Umtiti

3rd April 2019, 18:25 by Tom Hill

Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti will turn down any approach from Arsenal this summer, according to reports in the Spanish press.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is on the lookout for more defensive recruitments as he plans to help the club kick on next season.

Umtiti has emerged as a potential target as he has slipped down the pecking order at the Nou Camp. A knee injury has troubled him throughout the campaign, with Clement Lenglet and Gerard Pique ahead of him.

Barcelona are thought to be interested in Ajax youngster Matthijs de Ligt but Umtiti will reportedly fight for his place, with Manchester United previously interested in his services.

Reports in Spain claim the former Lyon man is ready to try and dislodge Lenglet before the end of the season as he looks to prove his worth to the Spanish giants.

He has made just 10 appearances in La Liga this season and Arsenal may have to look elsewhere if they want to land a new centre-back in the coming months.
