Aubameyang confident of title push

20th August 2019, 13:17 by Dan McCarthy

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he thinks his side have what it takes to push for a title challenge this year.

The Gunners have won both their opening games in the Premier League for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

They picked up wins away to Newcastle and at home to Burnley, with the Gabonese forward Aubameyang netting in both matches – though they face a tough trip to Liverpool on Saturday.

Unai Emery broke Arsenal's transfer record this summer after signing Nicolas Pepe, while the experienced Brazilian David Luiz was brought in to bolster the defence.

Qualifying for the Champions League is Arsenal's main priority this season after missing out last term following a fifth-place finish and loss in the Europa League final to Chelsea.

However, the 30-year-old Aubameyang is not limiting the potential of his side and says a title challenge cannot be out of the question.

"I think as I said earlier we have made good signings, that will help us," Aubameyang told Canal+.

"Last season, we were not far away from qualifying for the Champions' League.

"Whatever happens, that is the most important thing, the most important aim for us. To be back in the Champions' League.

"Aside from that, to fight for the title, we know very well that the big guns are ready but we are also ready and in any case we are going to give our all to match the big guns if possible."

Arsenal have started strongly and punters who agree with Aubameyang's claims can use their free bet to back them for Premier League glory.
