Emery hoped for more from January window
Arsenal boss Unai Emery says he's glad to have added to his squad in January but had hoped to bring in three players.
The Gunners were finally able to confirm the arrival of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez on loan for the rest of the season on transfer deadline day after protracted negotiations, but the Spaniard was the only new face in Emery's squad for Friday's training session.
The north London outfit were understood to be keen on signing either Ivan Perisic of Inter Milan or Dalian Yifang wideman Yannick Carrasco while Emery had previously spoken about the need for defensive cover after a recent spate of injuries, but no further deals materialised.
Having been limited by Arsenal's demands to only bring players in on loan, Emery says the recruitment staff did all they could to improve his options and is happy to have Suarez added to the ranks.
"The club did all we could," he said."We spoke about the possibility of bringing in three players but only if they can come here with our conditions, if we think they can help us produce a good performance and are better than the players already here.
"Suarez only came but we are happy and the club is working very well."
Emery went on to state that Suarez would likely be in the Arsenal squad that travels to Manchester City on Sunday.
