Gunners keen on Saints midfielder

11th July 2019, 08:45 by Michael Holland

Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina looks set to leave Saints this summer and Arsenal are in the hunt.

The Gunners need a new midfielder and reports are rife suggesting Lemina, who has not travelled with rest of the Saints squad for pre-season, is a target.

Southampton are ready to cash in for £18million and that kind of figure would suit the Gunners and their limited transfer budget.

Lemina admits he could be on the move, and when quizzed about links to Arsenal and Manchester United, he seemed open to such an opportunity.

"It's a bonus. If I have the opportunity to play this season, why not, but I'm really trying to regain consistency, become an important player in a team with high goals," he said.

"I need to play. That's really my priority. I want to show everyone what I can do."

Southampton paid a club-record £15.4million for Lemina when they snapped him up from Juventus in 2017 and are looking to make a small profit on him.
