Martinez completes Championship move

23rd January 2019, 16:53 by Bobbie Jackson

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will spend the rest of the campaign on loan at Championship outfit Reading.

The 26-year-old sits third in the pecking order at the Emirates behind Bernd Leno and Petr Cech and was unlikely to get many opportunities in the second half of the term.

Martinez has made just 14 first-team appearances since signing for the north London side from Independiente in 2012.

He has previously enjoyed spells on loan with Oxford, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Wolves and Getafe, but his last outing for Arsenal came in the 1-0 victory over Qarabag in December.

Arsenal said in a statement: “We wish Emi well for the remainder of the season with the Royals.”
