Monchi agrees Gunners switch - report

25th February 2019, 14:36 by Neil Foster

Roma director of football Monchi has agreed to work in a similar role with Arsenal, according to reports.

Monchi, whose real name is Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, has been with the Italian giants since April 2017 after he left Sevilla to move to Serie A following 16 years working in recruitment for the Spanish side.

The Gunners are in need of a new man after Sven Mislintat left his position as Arsenal's head of recruitment earlier this month, and it seems as though Monchi will now work in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

The north Londoners will need to pay Roma £2.6million in compensation, according to Calciomercato, to release him from his contract but it appears as though the former Sevilla goalkeeper will now lend his expertise in signing players to the Arsenal cause.

He is a good friend of Arsenal boss Unai Emery, with the duo having worked together for three and a half years with Los Rojiblancos when Emery was in charge between 2013 and 2016.

One possible stumbling block is that Sevilla are reportedly keen to make Monchi their new president and may try to prevent him leaving with a lucrative offer.
