Arter exit tough on Howe

10th August 2018, 09:56 by Chris Rivers

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says it was a very tough decision to allow stalwart Harry Arter to join Cardiff on loan on deadline day.

The 28-year-old has played a huge part in the Cherries' rise up the football pyramid having been signed from non-league Woking when the south-coast club were still in League One.

The Republic of Ireland international went on to become a vital part of Howe's team as they climbed up into the Premier League and had been a regular in the top flight before last season.

Arter didn't feature in the Premier League for Bournemouth after January 1 in the previous campaign and has now opted to make the move to Cardiff in the hope of being afforded more first-team opportunities.

Howe says he was sorry to see the central midfielder leave and believes he represents one of the best pieces of transfer business he has conducted during his time in charge.

"It was very difficult. I think Harry's journey epitomises that of the club," said Howe.

"Where Harry came to the club from non-league, working his way up through the leagues. He's done it in such an impressive way.

"Tremendous desire to achieve, to want to win. He's shown all those qualities, as the team has.

"We never envisaged when we paid that money... that it would be such good business.

"I've loved working with him for every minute we have been together and it will be very strange to see him play for someone else."
