Clyne emerges as January target for Howe

3rd January 2019, 16:27 by Simon Barlow

Bournemouth are ready to rival Cardiff City for the services of Liverpool's Nathaniel Clyne as the Cherries seek cover at right-back.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe needs another right-back after losing Adam Smith and Simon Francis to long-term injuries and The Daily Mail claim Clyne is a loan target for this month's window.

Cardiff City were expected to lead the chase for his signature with Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock keen to work with a player he handed a professional debut to when in charge of Crystal Palace.

Clyne was a regular starter in his first two seasons at Liverpool after joining from Southampton in 2015 but Trent Alexander-Arnold emerged as first-choice while the 27-year-old was injured last season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has shown a preference for Joe Gomez and James Milner at right-back when Alexander-Arnold has been rested or unavailable so the writing appears to be on the wall for Clyne at Anfield.
