Howe - We can handle festive period

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes his squad will handle the festive period as they try to remain in the top 10.

The Cherries are currently ninth in the Premier League table the first 14 matches of the season.

However, they have lost their last four matches in the top flight and the pressure is now on Howe as the season enters the festive period.

Bournemouth will play seven matches before the end of December and Howe is expected to rotate his squad in order to overcome fitness problems.

Some fans are worried that the squad will not be able to handle the overloaded fixture list but Howe is adamant his team will come through with flying colours.

He told the Daily Echo: "I don’t think it’s too many games – we want to play matches. It’s what we’re here to do.

"The Christmas period is part of what makes the English calendar unique and we embrace that and want to give our supporters as good a December as we can.

"I always enjoyed it as a player. I enjoyed the unique atmosphere the games gave you at that time of year. There was a different feel about them – more energy. They were great games to play in.

"We have 22 senior professionals – how many more can you carry without the squad becoming heavy with players who aren’t involved?

"That naturally breeds a different kind of feeling and you don’t want that feeling to creep into the squad. I think it’s a good number."
